Listing Photo Checklist: 6 Shots to Never Skip
Buyers scroll the listing photos before they decide to book a showing. This listing photo checklist covers the shots to plan before photo day, a few prep steps that make every room read clearly, and the order to upload them. Keep it on your phone for the next shoot.

6 shots to never skip
- 1. Front exterior from the street corner: a slight angle shows the depth of the house and the yard. It is usually the first photo buyers see.
- 2. Living room from the doorway: the view a buyer gets when they walk in, with the main windows in frame.
- 3. Kitchen wide, plus one detail: one shot of the whole room and one closer shot of the island, counters or range.
- 4. Primary bedroom and bath: the bed wall from a corner, and the bath from the door with the vanity and shower visible.
- 5. Backyard or best outdoor space: the patio, deck, garden or view, whatever the home offers outside.
- 6. One twilight exterior if you can: lights on inside, shot just after sunset. Optional, but it stands out in a feed.
Also worth adding
- Dining area and any flex room or home office.
- Laundry, storage and the garage, if they are features you mention in the description.
- Every feature you name in the listing description, so the photos back it up.
- Area features such as a park or trail nearby, described as features, never as who should live there (Fair Housing).
Prep before photo day
- All lights on, blinds open, ceiling fans off.
- Counters cleared, toilet lids down, towels folded.
- Cars out of the driveway and trash bins out of sight.
- Family photos, names and mail put away.
- Empty rooms: consider virtual staging, and always label staged photos as virtually staged.
Upload in the order a buyer walks
Start with the front exterior, then follow the path through the home: entry, living room, kitchen, dining, bedrooms, baths, outdoor space. Check your MLS for its photo count limit and rules on edited or staged images.
